US inks highest long-term LNG export contract volumes in 2019

Mubasher: The US has signed the highest volume of global long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) export contracts in 2019, making up a 67% global share, according to data and analytics company GlobalData.

Driven by an increase in shale gas output, the US inked five long-term contracts to export 22.3 million tonnes of per annum (mtpa) of LNG, the ‘Global Long-Term LNG Contracts Review, 2019 – Golden Pass Signs High Volume Contract with Ocean LNG’ revealed.

The deal signed between Golden Pass Products and Ocean LNG Limited involved the largest export volume of 15.6 million tonnes of LNG each year from 2024 to 2044.

“The other major long-term LNG contracts signed for export of LNG from the US include a contract signed between Driftwood LNG and Total Gas & Power North America for export of 2.5mtpa of LNG from 2023 to 2038. Magnolia LNG and NextDecade Corporation also signed contracts for export of 2mtpa of LNG each,” Sunrita Dutta, oil and gas analyst at GlobalData, indicated.

Mozambique came in the second place with 9.7 mtpa of LNG under export contracts, while Canada and Papua New Guinea had the rest long-term LNG contract volumes with 0.8 mtpa and 0.5 mtpa, respectively.
